The Woman I Have Become

From the day I was born to the day that I die
The wings that you gave me have taught me to fly

You’ve been there for me in ways no one else could
You have given me advice that no one else would

There were times in my life that I thought I was weak
I was hurting so badly that I could not speak

But you were there to comfort me with a simple embrace
That comfort you gave me was my saving grace

You always told me that I was special, smart and strong
But then again you weren’t afraid to tell me when I was wrong

It hurts me to know that when my life was astray
You were hurting for me in such an awful way

With all of your love and support I have grown
All my crazy times and wild oats have been sown

For my eyes and heart are now open to the future ahead
I have learned to grow from the past and put it to bed

I am now a woman, a mother, a wife
But I will always be your daughter for life

I’m so thankful for all that you have given to me
I appreciate all the things that you helped me to see

The woman I have become is due to the woman that you are
A brilliant, beautiful, kind, wonderful shining star

(This poem I wrote for my mom)
